HOLIDAY INN CROWNE PLAZA RESORT TO OPEN ON HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. ATLANTA, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Marriott Hotel at Shipyard Plantation on Hilton Head Island, S.C., has been acquired by Holiday Inn Worldwide under terms of an agreement announced today. Holiday Inn said it will refurbish the 338-room hotel in the coming months and open it as a full-service Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Resort in early 1993. The ocean-front resort will feature golf, tennis, beach, spa, supervised children's programs and other recreational amenities. Holiday Inn Worldwide opened its first Crowne Plaza Resort last week at Sugar Bay Plantation on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. A second Crowne Plaza Resort will open soon in Huatulco, Mexico. Crowne Plaza Resorts are an extension of the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza hotel line. Expansion plans for Holiday Inn Worldwide include a focus on strategic properties to serve vacation and business travelers with hotels and resorts located in popular leisure destinations worldwide.
