HOLIDAY GAS PRICE DOWN 22 CENTS FROM LAST THANKSGIVING
ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Motorists traveling this Thanksgiving holiday will find the nationwide average price of gasoline nearly 22 cents below a year ago, the American Automobile Association reported today.
AAA's weekly Fuel Gauge Report shows self-serve regular unleaded averages $1.142 per gallon, compared to $1.359 prior to the 1990 holiday. The average price fell .1 cent in the last week.
Pump prices increased in New England, the Midwest and the Southwest and fell in all other regions.
The Fuel Gauge Report is based on a nationwide spot check of gasoline prices conducted for AAA by Computer Petroleum Corp. of St. Paul, Minn.
AAA said the nationwide average price for self-serve regular leaded gasoline fell 3 cents in one week to $1.084 per gallon, down nearly 28 cents from last Thanksgiving.
Self-serve mid-grade unleaded averages $1.242 per gallon, up .5 cent in one week but about 20 cents lower than last year. The self-serve premium average is $1.321, up .1 cent from last week and 21 cents below the 1990 holiday price.
In addition to surveying for the AAA Fuel Gauge Report, Computer Petroleum Corp. publishes the National Petroleum Price Index, which monitors more than 50,000 daily wholesale and retail gasoline prices throughout the United States and Canada.
AAA is a not-for-profit federation of 147 motor clubs with more than 1,000 offices providing its nearly 33 million members in the U.S. and Canada with travel, insurance, financial and auto-related services.
