HOECHST CELANESE SUES ALLIED-SIGNAL FOR INFRINGEMENT OF TWO PATENTS
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Hoechst Celanese Corporation today sued Allied-Signal Inc. (NYSE: ALD) in the Federal District Court in Charlotte, N.C., for infringement of two patents relating to polyester yarn used in tires and mechanical rubber goods.
The patents were granted in 1978 and 1980 and deal with the manufacture of polyester yarn with the high-performance properties required in radial tires.
These yarns, known in the trade as HMLS (high modulus, low shrinkage) were introduced by Hoechst Celanese in 1980 and quickly replaced conventional polyester yarns in the high-performance tires of many manufacturers.
A Hoechst Celanese spokesperson said, "The needs of the high- performance tire industry were not being met until our research led to these breakthrough inventions. We have brought this suit to protect the valuable intellectual property which resulted."
Hoechst Celanese, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hoechst AG of Germany, has leading positions in chemicals, fibers, advanced materials and technologies and the life sciences.
