HOECHST CELANESE INTRODUCING NEW TRIACETATE FLAKE PRODUCT
FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC AND CINEMA FILMS APPLICATIONS
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cellulosic Flake Business Unit of Hoechst Celanese's Filter Products Division is launching the commercial-scale production into global markets of a new cotton-linters-based triacetate flake for photographic and cinema films applications.
This major product line diversification involves a market that is expected to grow at a 5 to 7 percent rate at least for the remainder of this decade.
According to Cellulosic Flake Manager J.D. "Dan" Bennett, "Hoechst Celanese's new triacetate flake, based upon the short fibers remaining on cotton seed after ginning, offers such applications advantages as improved film mechanical properties and clarity and better filtration performance because of higher purity."
Hoechst Celanese, the world's largest producer of cellulose flake products, already is a major supplier outside the U.S. of woodpulp-based triacetate flake to photographic and cinema film producers in Japan and is growing its position as a supplier to similar producers in Europe and China aggressively.
The Company's cellulose acetate flake products are used by its customers in such diverse end-uses as in cigarette filters and other filter mediums, textile fibers, transparent and pressure-sensitive tape, motorcycle and welder face shields, eyeglasses frames, tool handles and so on.
Hoechst Celanese, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hoechst AG of Germany, has leading positions in chemicals, fibers, advanced materials and technologies and the life sciences.
