HOB unveils new solution for accessing virtual desktop infrastructure.
HOB Inc, a fully owned subsidiary of software development and network service provider HOB GmbH & Co KG, announced on Tuesday (21 April) at the RSA Conference 2009 a new solution for accessing virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI).
The company said that the new HOB VDI Business solution enables companies to centralise their desktops in the data centre to simplify administration while improving security. The solution provides users with end-to-end access to virtual desktops. Single-user operating systems do not run on a user's workstation, but in the data centre instead.
After login, the solution connects users to an available virtual machine. If disconnected due to network problems, users will be automatically logged back in to their previous session.
The solution is available in two versions. HOB VDI-WSP (Web Secure Proxy) offers SSL-encrypted, remote access over the Internet. This offering supports all common hypervisors including VMware Server, XenServer or Microsoft Hyper-V. Because of its encryption technology, this version is recommended for enterprises that provide desktop access via the Internet.
HOB VDI-VS1 (Virtual Solution One) has been designed for accessing virtual desktop infrastructures over a company LAN. Its load balancing capabilities make it suitable for installations with a large number of users. This version supports only VMware Server as a hypervisor and is recommended for enterprises utilising their own company LAN. In addition, an SSL-encrypted connection over the Internet can be established.
No financial details were disclosed.
