HM the King, Cypriot President hold official talks.

Manama, Mar 9 (BNA) -- His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, today at Qudhaibiya Palace, received President Nicos Anastasiades of Cyprus, in the presence of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

An official welcoming ceremony was held on the arrival the Cypriot President to Qudhaibiya palace, where the national anthems of the Republic of Cyprus and the Kingdom of Bahrain were played.

HM the King chaired the Bahraini side in the official talks session and the Cypriot President led the Cypriot delegation, in the presence of HRH Premier.

The solid cooperation and friendship relations between the two countries were discussed, in addition to means of broadening economic, trade and investment cooperation. The two sides also reviewed regional and international topics of joint interest.

HM the King stressed Bahrain's keenness on bolstering bilateral relations in all fields, and benefiting from both countries' potential and expertise in the interest the two countries and their peoples.

HM the King ordered to appoint a non-resident Ambassador to Cyprus, with the aim of exploring new prospects of cooperation and developing cultural, tourism, economic and trade cooperation.

HM the King underlined the importance of expanding business cooperation among private sector enterprises of the two countries for enhancing bilateral relations.

HM the King highlighted confronting terrorism and extremism which don't reflect the real image of tolerant religions.

Cypriot President expressed delight in visiting Bahrain and meeting HM the King, commending the warm welcome and HM the King's keenness on developing bilateral relations.

Cypriot President emphasized his country's willingness to boost cooperation relations at all levels for the benefit of both countries and their peoples. He hailed the achievements and development witness by Bahrain in various areas, wishing the people of Bahrain further progress and prosperity under the leadership of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

HM the King, following the conclusion of the official talks session, decorated the Cypriot President with Al Khalifa Medal for his commitment to strengthen the bilateral relations. While Cypriot President decorated HM the King with the Order of Makarios III in recognition of HM the King's resolve to promote cooperation with his country.

The two leaders then witnessed the signing ceremony of the following agreements and memorandums of understanding between the governments of Bahrain and Cyprus:

1- An agreement on evading double taxation with respect to taxes on income. Minister of Finance, Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammad Al Khalifa, and Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, signed the agreement.

2- An agreement on the fight against terrorism, organized crime, trafficking in narcotic, illegal immigration and other criminal offences provided for in the agreement. Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowment, Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, and Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, signed the agreement.

3- An agreement on air services. Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammad, and Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, signed the agreement.

4- A memorandum of understanding on streamlining air services. Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammad, and Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, signed the agreement.

5- A memorandum of understanding on health cooperation. Minister of Health, Sadiq bin Abdulkarim Al-Shihabi, and Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, signed the agreement.

HM the King, after the signing ceremony, hosted a luncheon in honour of President Nicos Anastasiades and the accompanying delegation.
