HISPANICS LEND A HAND TO HURRICANE ANDREW VICTIMS
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- To help rebuild the lives

shattered in South Florida by Hurricane Andrew, Univision will make a heartfelt appeal to Latinos across America to come to the aid of a community in despair. "El Telemaraton: Los Hispanos Se Dan La Mano" (Hispanics Lend a Hand), a nationally televised telethon to raise funds for hurricane victims, will air live on KMEX-TV Channel 34 on Sunday, Sept. 13 from 4-10 p.m.
"El Telemaraton" will be hosted from the network's studios in Miami by Univision superstar Don Francisco. Cristina Aceves and Paul Rodriguez will co-host the telethon from Channel 34's studios in Los Angeles. "Siempre en Domingo" host Raul Velasco will be on location in Homestead, Fla., speaking to victims to find out how they're coping with this tragedy. A host of renowned performers such as Gloria Estefan (a South Florida native), Raul Di Blasio, Dionne Warwick, Jon Secada, Daniela Romo, Guillermo Davila, Kiara, Gilberto Correa, Ricardo Montaner and many others will be on hand to perform and make personal appeals for help. In addition, news footage provided by "Noticiero Univision" will show the devastation left behind by the hurricane and the ongoing efforts to rebuild and recover.
Hurricane Andrew, the most disastrous hurricane ever to hit the United States, has claimed 21 lives and caused an estimated $30 billion in damages. Its onslaught has stirred the emotions of millions and prompted an entire nation to come to the aid of its victims. Funds collected during the telethon will be disbursed by the American Red Cross via a fund specifically set up for victims of Hurricane Andrew in South Florida.
In Miami, "El Telemaraton" will be the concluding event of a two- week-long effort to raise funds to help hurricane victims. The telethon began in South Florida on WLTV Channel 23, Univision's owned and operated affiliate, on Aug. 31, and to date has raised more than $800,000 for the relief effort. Those who wish to make monetary contributions may call 305-471-4070 in Miami or 800-362-6750 to make their pledges. The phone lines will remain open through Sept. 13, the day of the national telethon.
