HILTON HOTELS NAMES RAYMOND C. AVANSINO JR. PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Barron Hilton, chairman and chief executive officer of Hilton Hotels Corp. (NYSE: HLT), announced today that the company's board of directors has elected Raymond C. Avansino Jr. as president and chief operating officer.
Avansino, 49, has served as a director of the corporation since 1986. He is a partner in the law firm of Avansino and Melarkey, Knobel and McMullen, and chairman of the board and president of E.L. Wiegand Foundation. The firm and the foundation are based in Reno, Nev., where Avansino has been a lifelong resident.
From April 1981 to August 1984, Avansino served on the Nevada Gaming Commission, the body which regulates gaming licensees in the State of Nevada in cooperation with the Gaming Control Board. In his new position, Avansino will be headquartered at corporate headquarters in Beverly Hills.
"I am delighted Skip Avansino has accepted the position of president of the corporation," said Hilton. "All of the members of the board of directors have learned to respect his judgment and knowledge during his years of service. We now look to his leadership on a full-time basis as the president and chief operating officer."
Hilton, who has served as chairman, president and chief executive officer, said he had been considering the selection of Avansino to the president's position for some time.
"We felt selection of a strong executive to the president's office would enhance the management structure," Hilton said. "This is particularly true as the company stands poised to capitalize on the improving economy and explore new opportunities for growth."
The chairman said the heads of Hilton's three principal operating units will report to Avansino. These include the presidents of the hotel division, the gaming division and Conrad Hotels, Hilton's international subsidiary. He also said the domestic and international gaming operations of the company would be consolidated under Avansino.
"There is no doubt that Hilton is one of the foremost brand names in the world," Avansino said. "I am honored that Barron Hilton and the members of the board have elected me as president. I look forward to working with all the men and women who have made the name Hilton synonymous with the word hotel."
Hilton Hotels Corp. is a publicly owned international lodging and gaming company which owns, manages and franchises more than 240 hotels and hotel-casinos. Conrad, the company's international unit, operates properties in Australia, the Caribbean, England, Ireland, Hong Kong and Turkey.
