HILTON HOTELS, CONRAD HILTON FOUNDATION ANNOUNCE
SEPARATE PLANS TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF HURRICANE ANDREW
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Carl T. Mottek, president of Hilton Hotels Corp. (NYSE: HTL), announced "Hilton Helping Hand Week" at Hilton properties throughout the country. Throughout the week, many of Hilton's 74,000 employees nationwide will contribute money for the emergency needs of their fellow Hilton employees displaced by Hurricane Andrew.
Hilton has two properties -- The Fontainebleau Hilton Resort and Spa and The Miami Airport Hilton and Towers -- located in Miami. Stephen Muss, owner of the Fontainebleau Hilton, and Prudential Insurance Co., owner of the Miami Airport Hilton, have joined with Hilton Hotels Corp. to match funds contributed by Hilton employees up to a total of $50,000.
"In the wake of Hurricane Andrew, we must take every step necessary to help the community rebuild, both on a personal and community level," Mottek said. "It is encouraging to see that so many Hilton employees have asked how they can help displaced families. We must move quickly to help support those who depend on tourism for their livelihood."
In a separate effort, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation today announced a $250,000 grant to assist the victims of Hurricane Andrew. The contribution, made to the American Red Cross relief effort, will be used to help those who have lost their homes and personal possessions in the devastating storm.
The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, a private foundation operating separately from Hilton Hotels Corp., initiates and develops major philanthropic programs and seeks out appropriate organizations to implement them nationally.
Hilton Hotels Corp., a publicly owned international lodging company, owns, manages and franchises more than 250 hotels and resorts in major cities, suburban areas, airports, and resort and gaming destinations nationwide. The company's international subsidiary, Conrad Hotels, currently operates properties in Australia, the Caribbean, Ireland, England, Hong Kong, Mexico (2) and Turkey.
