HILL AND KNOWLTON NAMES JENNINGS CHIEF OF STAFF NEW YORK, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- James C. Jennings, a former White
House aide who has been general manager of the Washington office, today was named chief of staff to Thomas E. Eidson, president and CEO of Hill and Knowlton, Inc.
Eidson said Jennings will assist him in the day-to-day operation of the firm, oversee effective implementation of 1992 firm objectives, and coordinate activities between Eidson's office and that of Hill and Knowlton Chairman Robert Gray. Jennings, had been executive vice president of Hill and Knowlton Public Affairs Worldwide as well as head of the Washington office. During President Richard Nixon's administration, he was assistant to the executive director of the President's Advisory Council on Executive Organization (the Ash Council). Eidson said, "Hill and Knowlton faces many challenges in the months ahead, as indeed does the entire American economy, and I am pleased that Jim Jennings will play a major role in the achievement of the positive program we are creating for 1992." Eidson said that, in addition to his other duties, Jennings will "work with me and the regional presidents in promoting and positioning the firm in the world marketplace, as well as developing new business around the globe." Jennings also will be responsible for the corporate staff in the New York office. He said he plans to spend three days per week in Hill and Knowlton's New York world headquarters and two days per week in Washington. Jennings is in his second tour of duty with Hill and Knowlton, totaling 19 years thus far. After leaving the executive branch of the federal government, Jennings joined H&K as a senior vice president in charge of day-to-day operations of the Washington office. He then became one of the founding officers of Gray and Co. and was secretary of that public affairs company's board of directors and its general counsel. He rejoined Hill and Knowlton when it acquired Gray and Co. in 1986. Jennings holds an undergraduate degree from William and Mary and an M. Div. degree from Virginia Seminary and was briefly in the ministry of the Episcopal Church. He received a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1975, and is a member of the bar in the District of Columbia. He is also a trustee of the Institute of American Indian Arts, appointed by President Reagan in 1988, and is on the advisory board of the USIA Private Sector Committee of the Arts.
