HIGHER COST OF NATURAL GAS SPURS TEMPORARY INCREASE IN BILLS

TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Peoples Gas System, Inc., Florida's largest natural gas distribution company, is notifying its customers of a temporary increase in natural gas costs.
This increase is the result of steadily increasing prices throughout 1992, and a dramatic fly up in natural gas prices that occurred in August 1992, when Hurricane Andrew ravaged gas production areas of the country. These and other factors caused Peoples to pay more for its gas supply than had been projected. Peoples' actual cost of gas from August through December exceeded the costs that were passed on to its customers.
"We expect that this under collection will be satisfied as a result of this temporary increase as early as mid-summer and that gas prices will return to a more normal price range at that time," said Hugh M. Grey III, Peoples Gas director of marketing services.
The impact on a typical Peoples Gas residential customer using 25 therms of gas per month will cause an overall annual increase of approximately 5 percent.
