HIGH-TECH SOFTWARE COMPANY RELOCATES TO ALBANY; OPENSERVICE SJI PIONEERS AUTOMATED COMPUTER SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION

ALBANY, N.Y., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- OPENService(R) SJI Inc., the leader in automated system management for computer networks, is moving its headquarters to downtown Albany.
The company's software products automate complex system administration tasks and monitor large distributed networks for Fortune 1000 customers, using a unique client-server expert system architecture.
The move, which takes place next month, is expected to create more than 150 jobs in Albany over the next five years.
"We are riding a growth wave in the high-tech market where there are not established competitors. We choose the city of Albany because we think the high-technology base in the Capital District Area will be a good incubator for our business," said Tom Lovegrove, chairman and president of OPENService SJI Inc.
The relocation is being supported by government incentives designed to bring new employment opportunities to Albany and the state of New York. These include investments by the Albany Commission of Economic Development, constituting that organization's first commitment to a software company, and by the New York State Science and Technology Foundation.
"This is the kind of business you love to locate in your inner city," said George Leveille, Albany's commissioner of economic development. "Having a technologically oriented firm with excellent growth potential that will employ city residents is good news."
Graham Jones, executive director of the New York State Science and Technology Foundation, agrees. "They have identified a good market niche not being adequately addressed by others in the market, their product development is complete and now they're building their organization," Jones said. "These are all strong starting points for a company involved in emerging technologies."
OPENService SJI Inc. is leasing space in Three City Square, one of a trio of historic buildings rehabbed in the 1980s. The development is managed by Mercer Companies.
OPENService SJI Inc. formed in 1991 with the goal of becoming the primary provider of UNIX system and network administration software and services in the world. Its premier product is SYSTEMWatch AI-L(TM), a UNIX software package that automates routine tasks such as monitoring file system and disk space, controlling memory and swap space growth and controlling process resource usage. The product permits one system administrator to manage as many as 500 systems, increasing productivity by 10 times or more. It has been met with outstanding response from the industry and is positioned to serve the growing open system marketplace.
"Market research indicates that our target market, which is distributed client-server system management solutions for the UNIX operating system, Microsoft Windows NT and IBM OS/2, is expected to grow to between $500 million and $2 billion over the next five years. OPENService is in an excellent position to capture a significant market share since there exists a demonstrated demand for our product," said Lars Graf, chief executive officer.
