HIGH PERFORMANCE ELECTRIC VEHICLE INTRODUCED AT GREATER LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- AC Propulsion of San Dimas, Calif., unveiled its "ELX" high-performance electric vehicle, here today. The converted Honda CRX boasts 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of under eight seconds, outperforming most gasoline-powered cars. The vehicle has a top speed of 85 mph and a range of up to 130 miles at 55 mph, according to California Air Resources Board tests. Another unique feature is its integrated battery recharger. The vehicle sets new performance standards for the fledgling electric vehicle industry, outperforming even GM's Impact prototype vehicle.
Unlike many electrics, the battery can be recharged by plugging the vehicle into any standard electrical outlet. No off-board charger or special equipment is required. Using a 240-volt, 100-amp outlet, recharge time for a full charge is only one hour. A standard household outlet of 120 volts, 15 amp, allows a full recharge in 12 hours.
Standard lead-acid batteries produced by Optima Battery of Denver power the car.
The company is presently producing prototype electric vehicle drive systems and is also offering complete converted vehicles such as the ELX. The vehicle on display at the auto show was built for the South Coast Air Quality Management District, which will use it as a test and demonstration vehicle.
