HIGH LEVEL DESIGN SYSTEMS TO INTEGRATE MENTOR GRAPHICS POINT TOOLS
 INTO CADENCE IC DESIGN ENVIRONMENT
WILSONVILLE, Ore., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Mentor Graphics Corp. (NASDAQ: MENT), in support of its on-going commitment to open design environments, and High Level Design (HLD) Systems Inc., Santa Clara, Calif., today announced a co-development program which will integrate HLD System's Design Planner 2 and Mentor Graphics industry-leading tools for three-layer metal place and route, datapath place and route and IC plotting software.
"Integration of the EDA (electronic design automation) industry's most powerful tools is at the top of our customers' IC design shopping lists. Tight integration of Mentor Graphics' AutoCells, Datapath and HotPlot products will give customers the flexibility they require to access advanced functionality place and route and plotting solutions from within the Design Planner 2 environment," said George Janac, HLD Systems' vice president of Engineering.
"We want to provide our customers a solution immediately. Mentor Graphics is the EDA vendor capable of delivering those solutions now," said Janac. "Over the coming year, HLD Systems and Mentor Graphics will continue to support customers' integration and design process requirements by working together on projects involving design creation and layout interfaces."
Through the co-development program, HLD Systems will initially integrate Mentor Graphics AutoCells place and route tool for design of complex three-level standard cell blocks; Datapath place and route for design of regular and semi-regular structures; and HotPlot for full chip plotting capabilities -- all within the HLD Design Planner 2 environment. The Design Planner 2 environment currently supports integration of products into Cadence's Design Framework I and Framework II environments. The addition of Mentor Graphics tools into the HLD Design Planner 2 environment will significantly increase the breadth of solutions available to Cadence IC tool users. Under the co-development effort, HLD will develop the interface between Design Planner 2 and Mentor Graphics IC design tools. Mentor Graphics will sell the place and route tools, while HLD will sell Design Planner 2 and the specific tool interfaces.
"This co-development effort will give our customers a choice of tools in a common environment. HLD Systems and Mentor Graphics are offering customers a significant competitive advantage by enabling them to select the best technology to shorten their time-to-market," said Steve Schaller, Mentor Graphics IC Group Sales Development manager.
"HLD Systems' backplane strategy integrates multi-vendor point tools under industry standard frameworks. These products have led to a number of close relationships between HLD Systems and industry leaders, such as Mentor Graphics, in both point tools and framework technology," said Janac. "We are committed to open frameworks and preserving our customers' investment in point tool technology."
