HIDER NAMED PRESIDENT OF USA TODAY SKY RADIO
WASHINGTON, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- William O. Hider has been named

president of USA TODAY Sky Radio, in addition to his current responsibilities as Gannett Co., Inc., vice president/telecommunications.
The announcement was made by USA TODAY Executive Vice President and General Manager Tom Farrell, who oversees the operation of USA TODAY Sky Radio.
USA TODAY Sky Radio will launch in late spring, broadcasting live radio service on commercial aircraft through the audio systems already installed on many planes.
Through a customized radio channel via satellite technology, USA TODAY Sky Radio will offer 24-hour programming of live news, financial reports, sports scores and weather reports.
"As president, Bill will oversee marketing and implementation of service as USA TODAY Sky Radio leaves an entrepreneurial stage and enters its operational business phase," Farrell said. "We are very excited about USA Today Sky Radio and the highly positive response it has received from both the airline industry and advertisers."
Hider, 45, an 11-year Gannett executive, was USA TODAY vice president/telecommunications from 1984 to 1987 and was responsible for the design, implementation and operation of the satellite/facsimile system which transmits The Nation's Newspaper.

News and other programming will be generated from USA TODAY Sky Radio's new studio and offices located in Arlington, Va.
USA TODAY announced it would launch Sky Radio on Sept. 8, 1991.
