HEWLETT-PACKARD(TM) SELECTS SCHLUMBERGER ITS
9000 VLSI TEST SYSTEM AS GENERAL PURPOSE ASIC TESTER
SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- After what is described as an "extensive evaluation," Hewlett-Packard has selected the Schlumberger ITS 9000FX component test system as its general purpose ASIC tester for all devices over 50MHz. Hewlett-Packard has interest in several systems over the next few years.
According to Gene Young, test product line manager HP(TM) in Corvallis, Ore., HP put together a team of experts two years ago to research test systems and work with vendors. Team members actually ported existing test programs to the various vendor's systems.
"The decisive factors in the selection of Schlumberger's ITS 9000," Young said, "were its advanced software which cut one-third off the program development time relative to previous systems, and the high degree of flexibility offered by the Sequencer Per Pin(TM) (SPP) Architecture." Schlumberger's software, called ASAP(TM) (Advanced Symbolic ATE Programming), is an object-oriented, icon- driven environment utilizing windows to create, test, debug and modify test programs in real-time without the need to recompile. The much heralded new SPP Architecture permits the generation of complex waveforms which would have been impossible to create with previous ATE technology.
Young continued, "We found the ITS 9000 gave excellent edge placement accuracy. It benchmarked extremely well. The design approach used promises to make it straightforward for Schlumberger to extend the capability of this system to 200MHz."
Young also cited the "excellent test head manipulator design" as a factor in the selection. The unique manipulator has six axes of movement and a vacuum loading system which reduces the device set up time.
The ITS 9000FX is a multifunctional 100MHz test system able to multiplex without pin loss to 200MHz. It is designed to meet the design-to-test requirements of advanced BiCMOS and ECL ASICS.
