HERTZ REENTERS SOUTH AFRICA; SIGNS CAR RENTAL FRANCHISE AGREEMENT

PARK RIDGE, N.J., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- After a five-year absence from South Africa, The Hertz Corporation, the world's largest car rental company, is reentering the market there with the signing of a franchise agreement with Imperial Car Rental, South Africa's largest car rental operator. The agreement is effective Jan. 1, 1994.
Under the terms of the agreement, Imperial will service Hertz bookings in South Africa, while Hertz will service Imperial bookings for Hertz operations in other parts of the world.
"The move is a response to the changing climate in South Africa and to calls for reinvestment in that country," said a Hertz spokesperson. "In addition, for a global company like Hertz, our reentry ensures a continuity of service for our customers there."
Imperial Car Rental operates a fleet of over 6,000 vehicles from approximately 70 locations in southern Africa.
Hertz has a worldwide fleet of 420,000 vehicles operating from over 5,000 locations in 130 countries.
