HERTZ EXPANDS IN-CAR PHONE PROGRAM TO FLORIDA

PARK RIDGE, N.J., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hertz Corporation, the world's leading rental car company, is introducing in-car cellular phones to its Florida locations. The in-car phone service is provided through GTE Cellular Communications.
Last week, Hertz began installing in-car phones in Orlando and Miami. By March, Hertz expects to have in-car phones installed throughout Florida, including Ft. Myers, Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and West Palm Beach. Hertz already offers in-car phones in over 30 markets nationwide. Hertz plans to use the in-car phones as a supplement to the portable phones that have been available in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and West Palm Beach since 1991.
"We're expanding into the Florida market because we've found that our customers want the convenience of being able to stay in touch whether they're traveling for business or pleasure," said Brian J. Kennedy, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Sales. "They like having immediate access to a total communication network with one easy swipe of their credit card."
The in-car phones are installed in the vehicles and are available on full size class and above at no additional charge. The cost of use is $1.25 per call plus $1.75 per minute, not including applicable long distance charges. The in-car phones may be requested by the customer when reserving a Hertz car but are subject to availability at time of rental.
Preprogrammed numbers, for which the customer is not charged when called are Hertz Emergency Road Service, 911 Emergency and GTE Credit Card Phone Customer Service.
For further details about availability and rate information customers may call Hertz toll-free at 1-800-654-3131.
Hertz, the world's largest car-rental company, is represented in over 5,000 locations in 130 countries. Started in 1918, Hertz is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
