HERMAN MILLER, INC. CONFIRMS NOTICE OF LAWSUIT
HERMAN MILLER, INC. CONFIRMS NOTICE OF LAWSUIT ZEELAND, Mich., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Herman Miller, Inc.
(NASDAQ-NMS: MLHR) today confirmed that it has been notified that Haworth, Inc. has filed suit against it alleging Herman Miller has infringed on certain Haworth patents relating to electrical distribution systems attached to office panel furniture systems.
Herman Miller, Inc. was informed that the case was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division. James E. Christenson, vice president and general counsel, stated, "We have been informed that Haworth has filed the lawsuit. However, due to the fact that Haworth has filed this matter in Georgia rather than in Western Michigan where both companies are headquartered, we have not received official service of a copy of the complaint. We, therefore, cannot comment on the substance of the claims. "We previously have received written advices from our outside patent counsel that such counsel does not believe our products infringe on Haworth's patents. We intend to defend this matter vigorously and we expect to prevail in the litigation." Herman Miller, Inc. is an international firm, recognized as the innovators in open office systems and ergonomic seating, and is engaged primarily in the manufacture and sale of furniture systems, products, and related services primarily for offices, and, to a lesser extent, for health-care facilities and other uses. The company is based in Zeeland. -0- 1/9/92 /CONTACT: John Berry, 616-772-8222, or Bob Johnston, 616-772-3267, both of Herman Miller, Inc./ (MLHR) CO: Herman Miller, Inc. ST: Michigan IN: SU:
