HERCULES SAYS LANGUAGE IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE APPROPRIATIONS
BILL FOR 1993 REGARDING TITAN IV SRMU PROGRAM IS A POSITIVE STEP
WILMINGTON, Del., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Hercules Incorporated (NYSE: HPC) said today that language in the Department of Defense Appropriations Bill for 1993 regarding the U.S. Air Force's Titan IV Solid Rocket Motor Upgrade (SRMU) program is a positive step to place the program on an equitable and sound basis.
The bill passed the U.S. House and Senate on Oct. 5 and awaits the signature of the president.
A portion of the legislation would require certain changes to be made in the SRMU program by the Air Force. Under terms of the legislation, the Air Force is directed to enter into a supplemental agreement to its prime contract for the Titan IV Heavy Lift Expendable Launch Vehicles by March 1993. A Hercules spokesman said the final determination of the effect on Hercules can only be made when the supplemental agreement is approved.
According to the Hercules spokesman, the legislation does not address losses encountered by the company due to program difficulties but does address the initial program investment and development costs and the management of the program in the future.
The spokesman said Hercules remains committed to the successful completion of the Titan IV SRMU program and believes the successful static test firing accomplished in June was a significant milestone. The Congressional language recognizes program issues, and successful implementation of the language is in the best interests of this critical national program, the spokesman added.
