HERBALIFE INTERNATIONAL WILL OPEN
NEW EASTERN EUROPEAN MARKET IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA
LOS ANGELES, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Herbalife International Inc. (NASDAQ: HERB) today approved the firm's plan to market its products in Czechoslovakia, giving the weight control health and nutritional company its initial presence in Eastern Europe. Herbalife currently operates in 11 foreign countries and the United States.
According to Chairman Mark Hughes, the company's products will be supplied to a network of Czech distributors beginning July 13 through the firm's existing warehouse in Strasbourg, France.
"This is an important springboard for Herbalife's expansion into the vast Eastern European market," said Hughes. "This will enlarge our existing overseas operations and lead to even greater market expansion."
Herbalife International markets weight control, health and nutritional products in the United States and 11 foreign countries through a network of self-employed independent distributors.
Herbalife's announcement of the new Czech marketing operations follows the firm's recent report of record earnings. For the first quarter of 1992, the company reported an increase in earnings of 112 percent over the year earlier quarter.
This gain was attributed largely to the company's continued high demand, worldwide for the company's products. Company officials also recently completed a marketing tour of Europe, which attracted substantial numbers of Herbalife distributors.
