 HENRY S. FIREY JOINS PROTEON AS VICE PRESIDENT OF SALES
 WESTBOROUGH, Mass., July 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Proteon, Inc. (NASDAQ: PTON) announced today that it has named Henry S. Firey as its vice president of sales & service. Previously, Firey was vice president, North American Sales & Service for Concurrent Computer Corporation, a $330 million manufacturer of high-performance minicomputers and workstations. At Proteon, Firey will oversee all U.S. and international sales and channels of distribution activities for all networking product lines. Firey reports directly to Patrick Courtin, Proteon president and chief executive officer.

 Firey comes to Proteon from Concurrent Computer Corporation. During Firey's tenure at Concurrent, revenues grew to reach $330 million. The sales and support organizations of an $80 million acquisition were integrated into existing Concurrent operations. In addition, Firey successfully transitioned Concurrent's product business from proprietary systems to micro-based platforms running UNIX software.

 Firey has held a variety of high technology management positons over the past 20 years. He was senior vice president at Penta Systems International, a publicly held software developer and systems integrator specializing in electronic publishing applications. Prior to his position at Penta, Firey held various management positions at Data General Corporation, General Automation and Burroughs Corporation. Firey holds a B.S. in operations research from the University of Maryland.
 Proteon distributes its products through systems integrators/OEMs, VARs and distributors that provide specialized support and network integration services. The company's sales and marketing partnerships include Alcatel, AT&T, Digital Equipment Corporation, Ingram Micro, Memorex Telex, Motorola Codex, NEC, Racal-Datacom, Tech Data, Unisys and Yokogawa.
