HENRIETTA'S NOW GOT A COCKLE-DOO; EXCLUSIVE Owners stunned by s-eggs change.

HENRIETTA the hen has ruffled feathers in the chicken coop... by turning into a cockerel.

Carol Messer left the chook happily laying eggs when she went on a two-week holiday to Skye.

But when Carol, 51, and hubby Peter returned the hen had grown a comb, red flaps under her chin and spurs on the back of her feet.

Even more alarmingly Henrietta had started to crow and was chasing her hen pals around the coop.

The Messers, of Johns-haven, near Montrose, may get rid of Henrietta if she turns into a rooster.

Carol said: "We saw a gradual change in her before but tried to ignore it because it seemed so weird.

"She used to lay dozens of eggs but she doesn't lay at all now.

"She lives here with six other hens and so far they get along fine... but if she crows, she goes."

Animal experts have said there is a one in 10,000 chance of hens changing sex.

The change occurs when a hen's ovaries become damaged and testosterone levels soar. This hormonal change causes the transformation into a cockerel.
