 HENLEY GROUP HELPS NEW HAMPSHIRE
HAMPTON, N.H., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Chatam, Inc., the charitable

foundation of The Henley Group, Inc., will provide $500,000 in emergency grants to help jobless people throughout New Hampshire meet rent and mortgage payments so they do not lose their homes.
To be known as The Helping Hand Fund, it will give emergency financial assistance to men and women of New Hampshire who have lost their jobs or are at risk of losing their jobs as a result of the recession.
"We are doing this because we love New Hampshire, and many of its people are hurting," said Michael D. Dingman and Paul M. Montrone, the Henley leaders. "We hope other businesses and individuals will join in this effort by increasing the resources available to local social service agencies struggling to relieve personal suffering."
There is a network of over 400 access points across the state for people seeking assistance. The program will be administered by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation working with the County Community Action Programs (CAPS) and their satellite offices across New Hampshire, city and town welfare officers, and United Way-affiliated social service agencies. Those individuals wishing further information about The Helping Hand Fund should contact their County Community Action Program or local welfare officer.
As a private fund, it has been designed to fill a niche that public dollars cannot. It offers flexibility, speed of response and service to individuals and families who are often ineligible for public assistance. The first dollars will be in people's hands by the end of this week. The Helping Hand Fund is not meant to replace public funds or existing programs.
Lewis M. Feldstein, president of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, said, "Michael Dingman and Paul Montrone saw the needs of New Hampshire and stepped in with a remarkable offer. Our commitment to Henley is to use each one of the $500,000 to ease the pain of men and women caused by these hard times and to do it swiftly, at a minimum cost, with the flexibility to meet needs that public dollars can't address. We are pleased to be working with The Henley Group on this project. We think the Henley generosity makes it a one-of-a-kind gift."
Henley and its affiliated companies manufacture and distribute aerospace, industrial and laboratory products worldwide. A predecessor company, Wheelabrator-Frye Inc., established its headquarters in Hampton in 1975.
