HENKEL EXPANDS RESOURCES TO SERVE COATINGS & INKS CUSTOMERS
AMBLER, Pa., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- In order to meet its customers' expanding needs, Henkel Corp.'s Coatings & Inks Division today announced increased production capacity, a new applications laboratory, an expanded technical service staff and the availability of new products.
"Manufacturers of coatings and inks are facing an increasing number of challenges," said Robert LieBerman, business manager, Ink Resins and Radiation Curing Chemicals. "We're there to service our customers by expanding our capabilities on several fronts -- with new capacity, new products, new laboratory resources to develop the products they need, and more technical help they need to use our products advantageously."
Production facilities in Charlotte, N.C., are being expanded to increase capacity for the production of Photomer(R) radiation curable acrylate monomers for use in ultraviolet/electron beam (UV/EB) curable coatings and inks. This new expansion will incorporate a unique proprietary esterification process developed by Henkel's corporate research and development staff in Duesseldorf, Germany.
The result of this process will be a new series of UV curable acrylate monomers that will be of a more uniform consistency, and will not contain any residual solvents. This production expansion will be completed in 1993 and will represent the second major investment in this product area in three years.
In Ambler, Henkel is investing in new applications laboratory equipment to better test and understand the performance characteristics of its Photomer products. The Inks business sector has also expanded its technical service staff. All of this is in keeping with Henkel's commitment to be "Specialists in Applied Chemistry" with respect to the UV/EB area and the graphic arts.
"Growth in the UV/EB area is expected to exceed 10 percent per year for the next four to five years," said LieBerman. "Henkel is committing the necessary funds and resources to position itself as an industry leader, particularly in new product technologies." The broad product offering for the Coatings & Inks market also gives Henkel a very strong position by offering a package of several different technologies, such as UV/EB, waterborne, solvent based and powder, to their customers.
"Henkel has become the only chemical supplier to offer the formulator the total package concept of providing everything needed to produce a quality ink or coating," added LieBerman. Henkel's Photomer radiation curing chemicals is one of the most extensive lines of monomers, oligomers, additives and photoiniators that can be used for numerous industrial applications.
Henkel Corp. provides the right chemicals and services to manufacturers in almost every industrial sector to help them improve their products and ultimately serve consumers better. Headquartered in Gulph Mills, Pa., Henkel Corp. is the North American operating company of the Henkel Group, headquartered in Duesseldorf, and benefits from the parent company's worldwide resources in research, product and process development, and customer service. Worldwide, the Henkel Group has sales of more than $7 billion.
