HENKEL CORPORATION COMMISSIONS FATTY ALCOHOL PLANT

HENKEL CORPORATION COMMISSIONS FATTY ALCOHOL PLANT
CINCINNATI, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Henkel Corporation today

announced that it has initiated commissioning of its new Fatty Alcohol manufacturing plant in preparation for fourth quarter start-up.
The action was taken following Mechanical Completion of the plant, the company said.
The new plant, which contains advanced proprietary technology, is located at Henkel's Cincinnati production facility. It has a capacity of 40,000 metric tons per year and together with the company's new alkyl polyglycoside plant, represents the most ambitious capital investment outside Germany in the Henkel Group's 116-year history.
The commissioning process includes verifying that all equipment is properly installed and ready to begin operation. The process, which confirms that each individual system operates according to specifications, will progress in stages.
"This plant is one of the most flexible and sophisticated natural fatty alcohol plants in the world," said N. Douglas Fluke, business manager for Henkel's Fatty Alcohols. "Advanced process control and state-of-the-art fractionation equipment ensure both high quality and consistent products."
The plant will manufacture a broad range of alcohols, ranging from C8 to C18, including single cut alcohols. A portion of the product will be used for captive Henkel requirements, including alkyl polyglycoside surfactants and alcohol sulfates.
Also, Henkel will sell products into the merchant market. With the completion and start-up of this plant, Henkel will become a major domestic source of natural fatty alcohols.
Henkel's proprietary technology brings significant advantages to fatty alcohol customers: high purity natural fatty alcohols, the broadest range of products available in the United States, flexibility to customize products for customers' specific needs and requirements, and high product consistency. "Consumers of fatty alcohol products have increasingly looked to suppliers who can differentiate themselves in both products and services," said Fluke. "Our capability to deliver high purity and extremely consistent products, along with a responsive and customer-focused service group, should provide the differentiation we need to be successful with our customers."
The marketplace has shown increasing interest in issues, such as renewable resources, which have been progressing in Europe. "The products produced in Cincinnati will additionally be kosherized, as they will be made wholly from vegetable sources," said Fluke.
Henkel Corporation, the Specialist in Applied Chemistry, provides the right chemicals and services to manufacturers in almost every industrial sector, to help them improve their products and ultimately serve consumers better.
Based in Gulph Mills, Pa., Henkel Corporation is the North American operating company of the Henkel Group, headquartered in Duesseldorf, Germany. With nearly 200 companies in 53 countries, the Henkel Group is a leading manufacturer of detergents, consumer personal-care and cleaning products, adhesives and oleochemicals. In all, the Henkel Group has about 11,000 products and sales of more than $9 billion.
The Henkel Group is a global producer of fatty alcohols with plants in Germany, France, Malaysia and now the United States. With the Cincinnati production facility, Henkel will have the largest capacity in the world for the production of natural fatty alcohols.
