HENKEL COMPLETES PAPER CHEMICALS LABORATORY EXPANSION
 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Henkel Corp.'s Paper

Chemicals Division today announced the completion of expanded technical facilities to provide for the growing needs of the pulp and paper industry.
The expanded technical facilities at Charlotte culminate a three- year program of construction and purchase of state-of-the-art equipment. "We now have the resources to work with pulp and paper manufacturers to make sure we can provide the exact product and service they need to improve their operations," said Steve Koenig, vice president of the Paper Chemicals Division.
The Charlotte technical facilities are comprised of three laboratories:
 1. The Product Development Laboratory was expanded and modernized to accommodate additional development activities. Investments in specialized laboratory equipment were made to assist in the development of new defoamers, wet strength resins, coating lubricants, deinking chemicals and specialty cleaners.
 2. A new Applications Technology Center simulates customers' manufacturing processes on a laboratory scale for flotation and wash deinking, coating and paper-making. The center, which covers 3,000 square feet, also contains paper testing equipment. "This facility allows us to determine the performance of our products prior to applying them at the customer site," said Kenneth Keegan, technology manager. "This center is used to optimize chemical programs to assist in the development of new products and troubleshoot customer production problems," added Keegan. Additional pulping and pulp-washing labs will be added in 1993.
 3. A new Analytical Laboratory provides rapid chemical analyses to support Henkel's product development efforts and customer service programs. This new lab, which supplements an analytical research group in Ambler, Pa., increases Henkel's overall analytical capabilities to meet foreseeable customer needs. "This industry is changing at a rapid pace, and Henkel has made the commitment to be in the foreront with innovative products and technology to satisfy the industry's needs," commented Koenig.
Henkel Corp., The Specialist in Applied Chemistry, provides the right chemicals and services to manufacturers in almost every industrial sector to help them improve their products and ultimately serve consumers better.
