HENDRICK EXPANDS INTO WASHINGTON, D.C., MARKET WITH
ACQUISTION OF ONE OF VIRGINIA'S LARGEST HONDA DEALERSHIPS
WOODBRIDGE, Va., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Hendrick Management Corporation, one of the nation's largest auto retailers with 40 dealerships in 10 states, has expanded into the Washington, D.C./Virginia market with the acquisition of one of the area's largest Honda dealerships.
Located in Woodbridge, Va., about 13 miles south of Washington just off I-95, Hendrick Honda of Woodbridge, Va., occupies a state-of-the-art facility of approximately 40,000 square feet on eight acres of land. The dealership, one of the largest volume Honda operations in Virginia, was formerly JKJ Honda.
This is the first move into Virginia for Charlotte, N.C.-based Hendrick Management Corporation, which is owned by Rick Hendrick, a native Virginian, who is known in the sports world for his highly successful NASCAR race teams driven by Ricky Rudd and Ken Schrader.
"Our company has been searching for an opportunity to expand into this market for a long time," said Hendrick, 42, who grew up on the Virginia/North Carolina line near South Hill, Va., and began his company in 1976 when he purchased a small Chevrolet and Honda dealership in rural South Carolina. "Now we've been able to do it with a top-notch new facility (built in 1988) to serve our customers."
In addition to being ranked among the largest dealership operations with projected sales for 1992 of 60,000 vehicles, Hendrick Management is the country's largest Honda and Saturn dealer. The company is also highly diversified, selling 25 different types of cars and trucks in its 10-state operation.
