HELPFUL TRAVEL HINTS -- IT'S FREE ON JUNE 29

 DETROIT, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, June 29, tri-county commuters can ride free on any one of SMART's 41 routes. SMART bus service can take you just about anywhere you want to go in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. People who currently ride the bus enjoy using SMART to go to work, shopping centers, medical facilities and other places, because it's economical, plus their ride is guaranteed. If riders are not satisfied, they can get their money back.
 Free ride day is the time to try SMART before the I-75 reconstruction and bridge repair work begins. SMART buses will help commuters avoid highway construction delays and gridlock.
 Following is some helpful information to help commuters get started on how to ride SMART.
 How do I know SMART can take me to my destination?
 It's as easy as dialing 313-962-5515. Call SMART's friendly customer information operators and tell them where you want to go. They will give you the bus route number, schedule times and direct you to one of many bus stops close to you.
 Where can I get schedules?
 SMART schedules are available at the Wayne, Oakland and Macomb SMART bus terminals, the SMART downtown Detroit Transit Center, or by calling SMART's Customer Information line at 313-962-5515.
 Once I'm at a SMART bus stop, what do I do?
 Wave at SMART's courteous coach operators from a SMART or D-DOT bus stop and board at the front of the bus.
 Are SMART buses wheelchair accessible?
 All SMART buses are wheelchair accessible.
 What does a SMART ride cost?
 It's free on June 29, but after this special day, fares are as follows:
 Regular Fare $1.50
 Park & Ride Fare 2.00
 Older adults &
 individuals with
 disabilities .75 during off-peak hours
 Youth (ages 6-18) 1.00
 Children 5 and under FREE every day
 Transfers .10
 Can I purchase tickets or a monthly pass in advance at a discount?
 Yes. Call 313-962-5515 and SMART customer information operators will direct you to a ticket outlet nearest you. A monthly SMARTCARD is $40 and regular-fare 10-trip tickets are $11. You can also purchase tickets and a monthly SMARTCARD by mail. Send check or money order to: SMART Ticket Sales, Transit Center, 660 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48226.
