CHAMOIS MANUFACTURER OFFERS WATER-SAVING TIPS ON CAR WASHING
NEW YORK, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Although today's longer drought cycles are leaving the nation dry, Americans can save vast quantities of water by simply filling a few buckets, according to Pittards, the British chamois leather manufacturer. The company has developed a novel approach to washing cars that can conserve literally billions of gallons of water every week.
Pittards estimates that approximately 4 billion gallons of water are used each weekend by Americans who wash their cars with a garden hose. "People shouldn't stop washing their cars altogether, since a clean car is important for safety and vehicle protection," says John Pittard, Pittards' group managing director.
"The solution is to use less water -- just three buckets per car -- which can save probably billions of gallons of water every week," explains Pittard. The following guidelines, developed by Pittards, can help keep cars clean and save water at the same time:
Pittards' Water-Saving Tips on Car Washing
 1. Use three buckets of water, putting soapy water in the first bucket to clean the windscreen, lights and number plates. Dislodge dirt with a sponge.
 2. Divide the car into four quarters and wash each quarter separately. Use a different brush or sponge for very dirty areas.
 3. Use the second and third buckets for rinsing. Let the car drip dry a few minutes before drying with a chamois, thoroughly moistened and wrung out. The chamois will remove the water gently without streaking.
 4. Always wash the car in the shade and avoid the heat of the day. A car that dries too quickly will leave water spots.
Look for a new chamois, called "Pittards Dry Soft," made from the finest quality sheepskin. Highly absorbent, Pittards Dry Soft actually dries soft rather than hardening after use -- an unprecedented product benefit -- while leaving a polished finish. Just on the market, it is now available at major automotive outlets throughout the United States.
