HELEN BOLEN, A 26-YEAR RTD EMPLOYEE, IS NAMED NEW MTA BOARD SECRETARY

 LOS ANGELES, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Helen Bolen was selected as the new Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) board secretary today by action of the 13-member board.
 Bolen will oversee official duties for the MTA board which will assume all duties and responsibilities of the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission (LACTC) and the Southern California Rapid Transit District (RTD) starting April 1.
 She will be responsible for preparation of board minutes, administration of the agency's code of conduct program, retention of official records, receipt of legal claims, as well as formation of agendas.
 She is the second of the top four positions, that, by statute, must be selected by the board. Franklin White was named the agency's chief executive officer last month. The board also will appoint an inspector general and a general counsel for the agency.
 Bolen began her transit career in her hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., in 1961. She joined the RTD in 1966 as a staff member in the Property Maintenance Department. She was named assistant RTD board secretary in 1973 after stints in RTD's Scheduling Division and Public Information Department.
 She is a graduate of the UCLA Transportation Certification Program and is involved in similar programs of this nature.
 She resides in Diamond Bar, Calif.
