HELAYNE SPIVAK JOINS AMMIRATI & PURIS AS CREATIVE DIRECTOR

 NEW YORK, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Helayne Spivak is returning to Ammirati & Puris as the agency's creative director, it was announced today by Martin Puris, president and chief executive officer, and Ralph Ammirati, chairman and creative director.
 Ms. Spivak, who for the past three years has been executive creative director of Young & Rubicam New York, will rejoin Ammirati & Puris at the end of her contract, as executive vice president, assuming the title of creative director, which was formerly held by Mr. Ammirati. She also will be a member of the agency's seven-person management committee.
 Ralph Ammirati, co-founder with Mr. Puris of the 20-year-old advertising agency, will remain as chairman and a member of the board of directors. He will supervise the transition as the creative mantle is passed to Ms. Spivak and will support and advise her. Mr. Ammirati also will continue to work with Mr. Puris on matters of agency policy.
 "While I have no intentions of retiring at this time, Martin and I have discussed over the past few years the need to find a successor to assume the role of creative director. Since we expect Ralph to remain active with the firm for a long time to come, Helayne and the agency will also have the benefit of his continuing support."
 Ms. Spivak said, "There is only one agency for which I would have left Young & Rubicam, and that is Ammirati & Puris. But I never expected to have the opportunity to return to Ammirati & Puris as creative director. It was truly fortuitous that Ralph was searching for a successor as I was considering renewing my contract with Young & Rubicam. If Ammirati & Puris had not offered me this position, I certainly would have continued at Y&R.

 Ms. Spivak has created notable advertising campaigns for Club Med and MCI, as well as the Schweppes campaign featuring John Cleese. She has won virtually every creative award in advertising, and most recently led the very competitive and successful creative pitch by Y&R for the Sears, Roebuck & Co. account.
 She received the Matrix Award of Women in Communications last year, and also was named one of the nation's "50 Top Women in Business" by Business Week in 1992. Ms. Spivak is a member of the board of directors of the One Club for Art and Copy and a founding member of Ads Against AIDS.
 With annual billings of about $350 million, Ammirati & Puris is especially known for its campaigns for Aetna, UPS, RCA, Compaq and MasterCard.
