HEIN-WERNER EXPECTS TO REPORT PRE-TAX PROFIT FOR 1993 FIRST QUARTER

WAUKESHA, Wis., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Hein-Werner Corp. (AMEX: HNW) today announced that it expects to post a small profit, before income taxes, for the first quarter of 1993. In the same quarter of 1992, the company reported a $250,000 loss from continuing operations before income taxes.
In making the announcement, Joseph L. Dindorf, president and chief executive officer, stated, "While sales will be down slightly for the quarter, North American sales are expected to be up as much as 5-6 percent over the prior year quarter, a very positive development. At the same time, sales in Europe have softened somewhat for the short term as a result of the economic slowdown in Europe. Overall, we are watching our costs and expenses closely to ensure that we maximize returns on our sales."
The company does expect to post a small net loss for the quarter, after accounting for income tax expense in some operations. In 1992, the first quarter net loss from continuing operations was $190,000. The 1993 first quarter results are expected to be slightly better.
Hein-Werner Corp. is a leading worldwide manufacturer and marketer of collision repair equipment, engine rebuilding equipment and fluid power equipment. The company has manufacturing operations and sale offices in the United States and Europe with distribution channels throughout the rest of the world.
