LANDOVER, Md., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Hechinger Company (NASDAQ-NMS: HECHA, HECHB) announced today that it has appointed Kenneth J. John Hechinger Jr., president and chief executive officer of Hechinger Company, said: "We are delighted that Ken Cort will be joining our Hechinger Stores Division. He brings valuable experience in merchandising and store operations that will further strengthen the repositioning of the Hechinger Stores Division. We look forward to adding his expertise to the continuing evolution of our successful Home Project Center concept."
Stephen E. Bachand, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Hechinger Company, said: "With an extensive career in retail merchandising and store operations, Ken brings additional depth and perspective to Hechinger. In addition, Ken's appointment will free me to move forward in executing the company's two-pronged strategy of converting Hechinger stores to Home Project Centers and promoting our growth vehicle, Home Quarters Warehouse."
Cort will report to Bachand as do Frank C. Doczi, president of Home Quarters Warehouse, and William Van Note, president of Triangle Building Centers. Bachand will continue to report to John Hechinger Jr.

He was chairman and chief executive officer of Finlay, Inc., and later joined Zale Corporation where he held several senior management positions.
