HEC Facilitates signing of MoU between Institute of Space Technology Pakistan and Hanyang University.
ISLAMABAD, October 12, 2009 (Balochistan Times): Higher Education Commission (HEC) since its very inception has established strong professional ties with reputed universities and educational bodies of repute. All these efforts are aimed at providing a reach to its local scholars to have access to best technical facilities and laboratories, existing elsewhere in the world. Consequently, the HEC scholars are not just gained access to the best research facilities but have diversified and strengthened the research community of the foreign universities, in which they are pursuing MS, PhD, Post Doctoral and short term research programs. The existing collaborative links between HEC and foreign universities bodies of repute are now being extended to local universities of Pakistan, looking for foreign partners. MS-Engineering Program, South Korea was the first window to South Korea, through which hundreds of HEC scholars were sent to South Korea in a span of 2 to 3 years. For placement of MS Engineering scholars of HEC, initial links were established with six reputed universities of South Korea, which are also listed in top 100 and top 50 universities of the world. During the course of implementation, of the said project, three MoUs were signed between HEC and Korean Universities. IST, a local university of Pakistan indicated to establish its linkages with reputed South Korean universities, for placement of its scholars and initiation of joint research projects etc. A two member delegation, comprising of Dr. Syed Mahmood Raza, Adviser HRD and Ms Rizwana Siddiqui, Project Director, from HRD Division, HEC was invited by SUPARCO / IST to give presentation on the avenues of cooperation with South Korean educational and industrial sector. HEC was requested to initiate negotiations with reputed South Korean universities, already having relationship with the HEC, to workout a wide ranging MoU with them. After multiple exchanges and discussion, via PMU South Korea, HEC, the draft MoU was finally agreed to, by both the parties. A signing ceremony was organized in which the MoU was signed between IST and Hanyang University; in HEC headquarter Islamabad, on 12th October. It is expected that the aforementioned MoU will have a long lasting impact on the engineering sector of Pakistan, through the mutual collaboration of IST and Hanyang University South Korea.
