HEAVY PACE OF REGISTRATION CONTINUES AT
STATE AND LOCAL APPLICATION CENTER
OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Registrations were received from 226 persons today at the Disaster Application Center located at 5354 Claremont Ave. in Oakland. To date there have been 1,893 individuals registered at the center. In addition, there have been 558 disaster claims received into the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Tele-Registration system. This brings the overall total to 2,451 who have sought assistance through the joint federal and state recovery programs initiated following the East Bay Fire.
Registrations will continue to be taken at the center, "until we can be reasonably sure that we have reached as many of the residents of the area as possible," said an employee of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The Federal, local, state and community agency presence in the area is augmented by hundreds of national and local staff members of organizations who have responded to the area's needs. Most prominent are the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Disaster workers of these two organizations have responded from all areas of the country. The first on the scene from these groups were the local members who were then supplemented by their counterparts from other areas in California and from neighboring states like Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona. Each unit arrived as a self contained and trained segment that fit right into the overall effort.
Anyone having suffered losses from the East Bay Fire, even those who have insurance, are encouraged to register at the Claremont Avenue Center between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Sunday hours are from noon to 6 p.m.
Questions on any of the recovery programs may be answered by calling the "Information Hot Line" at 800-525-0321.
As an option for applicants who, for whatever reason, cannot get to the Disaster Application Center a Tele-Registration line is available at 800-462-9029. Individuals who are hearing impaired may call 800-462-7585 TDD.
