 HEALTHTRUST NAMES VICE PRESIDENTS
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard Francis, 38, has

been named to head up development activities for HealthTrust, Inc. (NYSE: HTI), according to R. Clayton McWhorter, chairman and CEO of the Nashville-based company which provides hospital and other healthcare services for 81 markets in 21 states. Francis is a vice president for the company.
Ernie Bacon has been appointed to replace Francis as regional vice president for HealthTrust's 12 hospitals in Arizona, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama. Bacon was formerly the CEO of Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville, Ga.
"As a publicly-held company we have developed a more aggressive growth strategy," said McWhorter. "During our first five years, we needed to focus on divesting hospitals and other properties that did not fit within the company's long-term objectives.
"While we will continue to assess our current properties on an on-going basis, we will also focus in the immediate future on growth through selective acquisitions in new markets and expansion of appropriate services in existing markets."
"Francis has in-depth experience in identifying and developing appropriate healthcare services for individual markets," McWhorter added. "As we continue to fine-tune our asset base and implement our strategies for growth, I am confident Francis will manage those efforts with expertise and a broad understanding of the healthcare industry."
Former senior vice president and board director Hilary E. (Bud) Adams is leaving HealthTrust, Inc. to pursue other interests.
McWhorter announced an additional promotion in naming James Fleetwood, former CEO of Plantation General Hospital in Plantation, Fla., to replace Steve Brandt as regional vice president of HealthTrust's Florida and Georgia markets. Brandt has left the company to pursue other interests.
