HEALTHDYNE ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION

MARIETTA, Ga., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthdyne, Inc. (NASDAQ: HDYN) announced today that Healthdyne Technologies, its manufacturing operation, has completed the acquisition for $3.4 million of Apreco Technologies, S.A., a Belgium corporation, which is engaged in the development and sale of a multi-channel sleep study device commonly referred to as Alice(TM).
The device, which is utilized by sleep laboratories, is capable of recording up to 25 physiologic parameters on both adult and pediatric patients and displaying the results for physician review in a more convenient format than traditional devices. The device has previously been marketed by Apreco Technologies in Europe and, to a lesser extent, by Healthdyne Technologies in the United States under a licensing arrangement. The two principals of Apreco Technologies have agreed to continue with the company for a minimum of two years to assist not only in the transfer of the technology for manufacturing the device in the United States, but also in the development of future devices for the adult sleep apnea marketplace, one of the fastest-growing areas of home health care.
Healthdyne Technologies, a division of Healthdyne engaged in the manufacturing of high tech medical devices, is currently one of the market leaders in the field of adult and pediatric sleep apnea. Healthdyne is a national provider of high technology home health care medical services and products, which includes home obstetrical care through its Perinatal Services division, home infusion therapy through its partially owned Home Nutritional Services subsidiary, and high technology health care products through its Technologies division.
