HEALTH SYSTEMS GROUP CLOSES RECORD QUARTER
 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 17 /PRNewsiwre/ -- American Express

Information Services Corporation's Health Systems Group (HSG) finished '91 with record sales, thanks to the popularity of the company's new EXPRESS SERIES(TM) of products.
"We began 1991 with exceptionally high goals, and surpassed all expectations. HSG not only exceeded all sales goals, but also all financial goals set by American Express," said Don Driscoll, senior vice president of Field Operations for HSG. "While many HIS vendors had a difficult year, '91 was especially gratifying for HSG. 1990 was a record year, and our '91 goals were 50 percent higher. We had the best year in the company's history, and are now poised for growth in 1992, with an expanded sales force and additional product and service offerings."
Eighteen current Health Systems Group client hospitals renewed contracts, upgrading to the SAINT(R) EXPRESS product in the fourth quarter. Four client hospitals selected the new product for the first time, and one hospital upgraded to the SAINT EXPRESS system.
Santa Teresita Hospital, Duarte, Calif.; Northern Hospital of Surry County, Mount Airy, N.C.; Memorial Hospital of Union County, Marysville, Ohio; Falls Memorial Hospital, International Falls, Minn.; Palm Springs General Hospital, Hialeah, Fla.; Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Va.; Hilton Head Hospital, Hilton Head, S.C.; Ottumwa Regional Health Center, Ottumwa, Iowa; Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City, N.C.; Mid Coast Hospital, Brusnwick, Maine; Allen Memorial Hospital, Oberlin, Ohio; St. Joseph's Hospital/Health Center, Paris, Texas; Huron Regional Medical Center, Huron, S.D.; Illinois Valley Community Hospital, Peru, Ill.; Hood General Hospital, Granbury, Texas; Kootenal Medical Center, Coeur D'Alene, Idaho; West Park Hospital, Cody, Wyo.; and Lompoc District Hospital, Lompoc, Calif.; renewed HSG contracts, while upgrading to the SAINT EXPRESS system.

In 1991, the company introduced SAINT EXPRESS, its UNIX(R)/RISC-based hospital information system offered on DEC and IBM platforms, and the first in the new HSG EXPRESS SERIES(TM) of products and services. The company also introduced Image-MedRecs(TM) in 1991, a state-of-the-art optical disk imaging system designed to provide hospitals with an electronic medical record. HFC EXPRESS(TM), introduced in January 1992, handles case mix data, third-party billing, accounts receivable, cost accounting and medical records, as well as a full complement of general accounting applications. The system operates on large-scale IBM processors in Charlotte, N.C., providing significant economies of scale.
SAINT EXPRESS, a comprehensive in-house hospital information system, features the power and open architecture of the UNIX(R) operating system, and brings together advanced clinical and financial applications into a single-systems solution. The base product includes administrative functions; patient management; multi-entity patient accounting; financial management, advanced nursing management; and hospital/physician networking. Options include pharmacy management; outpatient prescription pharmacy; laboratory management; and radiology management.
St. Peter Chemical Dependency Center, Lacy, Wash., selected Health Systems Group's Hospital Financial Control (HFC) system during the fourth quarter. Current clients renewing the HFC system were Marion General Hospital, Marion, Ohio; Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New York, N.Y.; Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.; St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Granite City, Ill.; Cedars Medical Center, Miami, Fla.; St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Ill.; and St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland, Ill. William N. Wishard Memorial Hospital, Indianapolis, Ind., purchased additional functionality for its HFC system.
HFC provides remote processing for high-volume financial transactions, resulting in a cooperative network handling hospital information. Including more than 30 modules and up pt 4,000 reports for multiple applications, the systems operates on large-scale IBM processors in Charlotte, N.C., and provides significant economies of scale for such labor-intensive tasks as billing and statement processing.
While renewing the HFC system, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center and Anderson Hospital both purchased additional functionality by choosing HSG's new AXIS(TM) product. AXIS combines in-house patient care applications with outscored financials (HFC), giving the user immediate access to both from a single workstation. Mission-critical applications remain in-house for rapid communication and instantaneous access, while high-volume processing is outsourced for efficiency and economies of scale.
Marion General Hospital, Marion, Ohio; and Family Healthcare, Jersey City, N.J. selected HSG's Patient Care System (PCS) which automates patient information associated with ordering, scheduling, results reporting and patient registration history. Often used as a front-end to the HFC system, PCS incorporates a wide range of patient care data into a single system, allowing a hospital greater cost efficiencies and improved productivity. Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva, Ill.; St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, Wash.; and Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, Ind., purchased additional functionality for their PCS systems.
Valley Hospital, Palmer, Ark., selected HSG's Agency Management Service, which allows hospitals to electronically transmit delinquent account information to collection agencies. The service also measures agency performance and provides useful management reports on the status of each account transferred.

HSG's experienced, professional staff uses state-of-the-art collection management tools, including predictive dialing telephone technology, to contact patients and third parties efficiently .
Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, S.C., a current SAINT PLUS client, chose RadCom, a radiology department management system.
