HEALTH RISK MANAGEMENT SELECTED BY HOSPITAL CORPORATION OF AMERICA TO MANAGE MEDICAL CARE AND ADMINISTER CLAIMS FOR ITS EMPLOYEES

 MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Risk Management (NASDAQ-NMS: HRMI)(HRM), a Minneapolis-based health care management firm today reported that it and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), one of the nation's largest hospital systems, headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., have signed a Letter of Intent for a proposed 3-year contract under which HRM will manage the medical care and administer the medical claims for HCA's corporate and affiliated hospital employees. It is expected that implementation of the agreement will begin immediately with services to employees beginning on or about Jan. 1, 1994.
 Under the proposed contract, valued in the range of $15 million, HRM will provide integrated managed medical care and claims administration services to approximately 38,000 employees covered by the health plans.
 HRM Chief Executive Officer Gary McIlroy, M.D., said, "This agreement will deliver our industry-leading system of health care practice guidelines, linked electronically with a sophisticated claims administration system, to one of the nation's leading hospital systems. We are pleased that HCA, which is known for the quality of its hospital management, selected HRM to manage its employee health care benefits." HRM will provide health care management services that include managed medical/surgical care for inpatients and outpatients and claim administration for medical/surgical and dental claims.
 HRM's medical/surgical specialty teams provide care management services using QualityFIRST(R), a set of more than 450 health care practice guidelines that promote optimal medical decision-making and use of medical resources. QualityFIRST addresses the major cost areas in health care. HRM integrates its practice guidelines with additional managed care services, including claim administration, using EDI (electronic data interchange) technology that enhances administrative speed, improves accuracy and provides superior customer service.
 HRM's claim payment system electronically integrates claims processing with medical/surgical recommendations to ensure accurate, timely claims payment with the assurance that savings achieved during care management are fully realized.
