HEALTH MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATES COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF TWO GALEN HEALTH CARE HOSPITALS

 NAPLES, Fla., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Management Associates, Inc. (NYSE: HMA) today announced it has completed its acquisition of two hospitals from Galen Health Care Inc. (NYSE: GHC). The two hospitals are Sebastian Hospital, a 133-bed facility located in Sebastian, Fla. and Natchez Community Hospital, a 101-bed facility located in Natchez, Mississippi.
 "The addition of these two acute care hospitals combined with the recent closing of Heart of Florida Hospital in Haines City and Parkview Hospital in Topeka , Kansas, bring the number of hospitals we operate to a total of 20," said William J. Schoen, chairman, president and chief executive officer of HMA. "We are pleased to add Sebastian Hospital and Natchez Community Hospital to our family of non-urban acute care hospitals located in the Southeast and Southwest."
 Health Management Associates is a major operator of general acute care hospitals in communities situated primarily in the Southeast and Southwest. The company operates 20 facilities in eleven states with a total of 2,023 beds.
