 HEALTH IMAGES, INC. COMPLETES CENTER
 ACQUISITION IN BELLEVILLE, ILL.
ATLANTA, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Images, Inc. (NASDAQ: HIMG) today completed its second center acquisition with the purchase of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) center in Belleville, Ill.
The center, Magnetic Imaging of Belleville, is located at 7 Christopher Drive, Belleville, Ill. Belleville is located approximately 25 miles southeast of St. Louis.
Health Images' President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Robert D. Carl III, said: "Magnetic Imaging of Belleville represents the second acquisition of an imaging center by Health Images within the last six months. As we gain experience in acqusitions, we expect this pace to increase. We are currently exploring a number of prospects that could lead to additional acquisitions in the months ahead. We believe Health Images' strong cash position will allow us to fuel our company's growth through center acquisitions as mergers and consolidations occur in the outpatient diagnostic imaging industry."
For more than three years, Magnetic Imaging of Belleville has been a third party service site for Health Images' Engineering Services Division. Although Health Images will own and operate the center, Magnetic Imaging of Belleville will retain its center personnel.
In addition, the center's current MRI system will be replaced with the HI Standard(R) superconductive imaging system, which is designed and built by Health Images. The HI Calibre(TM) hardware and software upgrade, which provides performance enhancements for the HI Standard, will also be installed. In order to make the center more efficient and patient-friendly, the center's magnet room, office and waiting areas will be remodeled by Health Images' Medical Construction Services Division.
Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, is a medical diagnostic imaging technology that combines radio frequency energy, magnetic field manipulations and computer technology to create vivid images of the internal structures of the body in multiple planes or views. Although there are countless uses for MRI, the majority of cases pertain to viewing the brain, spine and joints, particularly the knee. MRI is effective in detecting tumors, multiple sclerosis, neurological and musculoskeletal disorders and in the evaluation of cancer therapy.
Including Magnetic Imaging of Belleville, Health Images, Inc., a public company based in Atlanta, operates 33 MRI centers in the United States and United Kingdom, and one radiation oncology center. The company also manufactures MRI scanners, and provides MRI equipment maintenance and medical construction services to third party clients.
