HEAD OF TEXAS INSTRUMENT'S INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS RETIRES; TEXAS INSTRUMENT EXECUTIVE VP LEADS STRATEGIC THRUST IN SOFTWARE

 DALLAS, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- John W. White, Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN) vice president and president of TI's information technology business, has announced his retirement effective Jan. 31. Mr. White, 55, elected to take early retirement to pursue other interests and opportunities.
 Mr. White has been president of TI's information technology business since 1989. This business primarily is focused on developing software tools, applications and services that are used by more than
900 corporations to improve their productivity. Under Mr. White's management, revenues from TI's software business went from zero in 1986 to about a quarter of a billion dollars in 1992. Most recently, Mr. White has been instrumental in delivering TI's software to the client/server market and paving the way for the next phase of growth for TI in the software business.
 In recognition of the strategic importance of software and related services to TI, these businesses will report directly to TI Executive Vice President William F. (Hank) Hayes. Mr. Hayes also chairs the TI Strategy Leadership Team that sets strategic direction for the entire company.

business," said Mr. Hayes. "The need for faster, more flexible responses in business today is causing companies all over the world to redesign their business processes and related management systems. John has ensured that TI has software tools and services to make such changes possible for us and for our customers."
 Mr. White first worked at TI from 1961 until 1969. He returned to TI in 1973 and spent the next 15 years in management positions with TI's internal software development group. He was elected a vice president of TI in 1989.
