HEAC - 7017 Teaching Staff at Higher Education Institutions.

Muscat, July 27 (ONA) --- Statistics issued by the Statistics Department at the Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC) for the academic year 2014/2015 indicated that the total number of teaching staff in higher education institutions in the Sultanate totaled (7017), forming a rate of (47.3%) of the total number of workers in these institutions.

The teaching staff accounted for 48.3% of total employees in the government educational institutions and (45.7%) in the private higher education institutions.

The HEAC statistics indicated that the percentage of Omani teaching staff in the private and public higher education institutions are less than expatriates, who accounted for (27.4%) in the government higher education institutions and (19.9%) in the private higher education institutions of the total teaching staff .

Among the top five nationalities of the teaching staff working for government higher education institutions during the academic year (2014/2015), the Indian nationality topped the list, with 48.2% of the total number of teaching staff, followed by Pilipino nationality with (10.3%), Egyptian nationality with (5.8%), Pakistani nationality with (4.4%), and the Tunisian nationality with (3.7%).

With regard to the nationalities of the non-Omani teaching staff at the private higher education institutions, again the Indian nationality topped the list by (41.1%), followed by Pakistanis with (7.1%), the Iraqi and Egyptian nationalities and (5.0%) for the British nationality.

At the level of qualifications of teaching staff at higher education institutions during the academic year (2014-2015), Masters Qualification was the most common. In the government institutions, they were accounted for (56.6%) and (50.2%) in private institutions of the total number. The PhD holders among the teaching staff of the private higher education institutions are 2.1% higher than those in the government institutions.
