HDTV REPORT PUBLISHES EXCLUSIVE HDTV PROPONENT VIDEO QUALITY RESULTS

POTOMAC, Md., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Side-by-side subjective video quality comparisons of the five high-definition television (HDTV) proponents was just published in HDTV REPORT.
In an exclusive, two-page copyrighted story in the Feb. 3 edition of HDTV REPORT, Editor Chris McConnell reports on the subjective video quality comparisons made by non-expert viewers during the FCC- sponsored testing for each HDTV proponent system.
The charts -- from an FCC working party draft report on advanced television -- carry viewer scores comparing the differences between images rendered by each proponent system and studio source material. A special panel of the Advisory Committee on Advanced Television will review the draft report this month as it considers whether to recommend a "winner" in the FCC's sweepstakes to become the next U.S. television standard.
The chart information will give HDTV REPORT subscribers an advance look at some of the data Special Panel members will consider in making their decision.
The non-expert quality assessments are chartered for Narrow-MUSE, development by Japan's NHK network; DigiCipher and Channel Compatible DigiCipher, developed by General Instrument Corp. and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Digital Spectrum Compatible HDTV, developed by Zenith/AT&T; and Advanced Digital HDTV, developed by the Advanced Television Research Consortium.
