HAYES WHEEL INTERNATIONAL TO PRODUCE ADVANCED LIGHTWEIGHT ALUMINUM WHEELS FOR 1994 BUICK PARK AVENUE

DETROIT, March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Hayes Wheels International will produce its advanced lightweight full-face modular (FFM) aluminum wheels for the 1994 model year Buick Park Avenue, according to Ron Cucuz, president and chief executive officer. The announcement was made today at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International Congress & Exposition in Detroit.
The Park Avenue contract, valued at approximately $1 million annually, represents the second application for Hayes Wheels' FFM technology, which debuted on the Dodge Viper sports car last year. Hayes Wheels will begin production of FFM aluminum wheels for Buick in late spring.
"The Park Avenue application for our full-face modular aluminum wheel marks growing acceptance for this advanced technology product," Cucuz said. "FFM technology allows us to provide customers like Buick and Dodge with lighter, more attractive aluminum wheels than ever before."
FFM wheels are two-piece aluminum wheels which combine cast aluminum faces with rolled wrought aluminum rims. This unique design produces wheels that are 15 to 20 percent lighter than one-piece cast aluminum wheels and up to 40 percent lighter than traditional fabricated steel wheels.
Hayes Wheels is the leading independent producer of steel wheels for the North American market, the largest independent North American exporter of aluminum wheels to Japan and the second-largest producer of aluminum wheels in North America.
Hayes Wheels is the world's leader in the design, engineering and manufacture of steel and aluminum wheels for the automotive market in North America, Europe and Asia. Hayes Wheels is a member of the Kelsey-Hayes Group of Companies.
