 HAYDEN ELECTED DIRECTOR OF WITCO
 NEW YORK, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard M. Hayden, a partner


of Goldman, Sachs & Co., investment bankers in New York, has been elected to the board of directors of Witco Corporation (NYSE: WIT). The announcement was made by William R. Toller, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Witco, today.
 Hayden joined Goldman Sachs in 1969 and was named a vice president in 1973. He became a partner of the firm in 1980. He is chairman of Goldman, Sachs' credit committee and is a member of its commitments and its investment banking policy committees.
 Hayden, who holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Graduate School of Business, received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University. He is a board member of The Robert Mondavi Corporation. His charitable interests include a directorship with The Smithsonian Institution's Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Design. He is also a trustee for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
 Witco, headquartered in New York, is a worldwide manufacturer of specialty chemical and petroleum products and engineered materials with annual sales of more than $1.6 billion.
