HAWTAL WHITING LAUNCHES SERVICE EXPANSION WITH MOVE TO NEW QUARTERS
TROY, Mich., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Hawtal Whiting, Inc. (HWI) will occupy new quarters this month in response to business growth and as the first step of a multi-phase expansion of its service capabilities for present and potential customers.
The automotive design and engineering firm will move into a stand- alone building at 800 Stephenson Highway in Troy. The 48,000-square- foot facility will house newly added vehicle mock-up and clay modeling capabilities, additional computer-aided-design terminals, a service machine shop, and a full-service vehicle garage.
In addition, the company will transfer to the new facility all of its administration and headquarters staff, and a portion of its design and engineering staff and equipment, formerly housed in leased space on Kirts Boulevard in Troy.
The move to the Stephenson Highway location will be followed in several months by the addition of another facility, further expanding HWI's service capability.
"These moves will enable us to expand substantially the range of services we offer our customers," David Jones, chief executive officer and president, said. "Expanding our capabilities will enable us to more fully serve our customers on current projects while greatly enhancing our ability to compete for future work."
Jones also noted that the new facilities will improve the company's operating efficiency. "We will have more space in superb buildings well suited to our operations and our customers' requirements," he said. "Remaining in Troy is a plus, too, because of its central location and the support we've received from the city."
Jones noted that as HWI gained new contracts, the company outgrew its present facility. At the same time, he said, the need to broaden the firm's service offerings in North America was clear.
"In today's international vehicle industry, not only must competitors have global vision and presence, but also they must be able to provide a complete range of service," Jones said. "Hawtal Whiting already has these capabilities outside North America, and our expansion in Troy will give us -- and our customers -- that kind of full-service capability here."
The second phase of HWI's expansion will comprise additional design and engineering capacity, and greater self-sufficiency in building vehicle mock-ups.
"We'll be able to construct mock-ups in-house, with the capability for research and development, light machining and assembly," Jones explained.
Jones revealed that HWI plans to incorporate clay modeling and measuring for verification of design data. Supporting this approach will be the latest techniques for cardboard and Styrofoam(TM) modeling to enhance the "math-data-to-tools" philosophy.
"Our goal, one that we share with our customers, is to reduce substantially the cost and time required to complete vehicle engineering programs," Jones stressed.
Hawtal Whiting, Inc. applies its global resources and leading-edge technology to provide a broad range of design, engineering, styling and structural analysis services to North American vehicle makers.
