HAUSER ANNOUNCES PATENT APPROVAL ON ELECTRODEPOSITION OF SUPERCONDUCTOR ELEMENTS

BOULDER, Colo., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Hauser Chemical Research Inc. (NASDAQ: HAUS) announced today that the U.S. Department of Patents and Trademarks has allowed Hauser's patent on a new electrochemical process to simultaneously deposit from aqueous solution, the metals needed to make perovskite superconductors, on wires or irregular surfaces. The technology promises to be an inexpensive method for manufacture of superconducting wire and other materials.
"Wire made from this process has been further processed and shown to demonstrate superconductive properties. The full implications of this new technology are being evaluated and we are exploring options for commercialization of this exciting new technology," according to Dr. Dean P. Stull, Hauser's chief executive officer.
Hauser Laboratories, a division of Hauser Chemical Research, has performed research in electroplating technology dating back to the early 1970s. Early interest in metalized foam matrices and aqueous electroplating technology lead to the company's interest in electroplated superconductive films and wires. This Hauser discovery is the result of research on superconducting materials conducted over the past three years. Hauser Laboratories provides chemical and engineering services, and contract research and development to private, corporate, and government clients in addition to in-house research.
Hauser owns many proprietary technologies used to efficiently produce a wide spectrum of high value, specialty products for customers in many different industries. Hauser produces bulk taxol for cancer treatment and research, natural flavor extracts used in the food and beverage industries, and adjuvant for a feline leukemia vaccine now under study for use with human vaccines, artemisinin which is a potent anti-malaria compound under study by World Health Organization and artemisinin derivatives which are being developed by the company for treatment of several parasitic diseases.
Hauser Chemical Research is a chemical processor, specializing in the extraction and purification of high value specialty products from natural sources using its proprietary technologies. The company provides interdisciplinary laboratory testing services, chemical engineering services and contract research and development through its Hauser Laboratories Division. The company is based in Boulder.
