HAUSER ANNOUNCES NEW FLAVORS FACILITY AND NEW FLAVORS ORDERS

BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Hauser Chemical Research Inc. (NASDAQ: HAUS) announced today that it has broken ground on a new $7,000,000 manufacturing facility for natural flavorings. New purchase orders for these flavor extracts exceed $1,000,000. The new facility, scheduled to be completed this spring, will be 33,000 square feet and is designed specifically for maximization of Hauser's proprietary isolation and extraction technologies for natural flavors. The facility will be located on 25 acres of undeveloped land north of Denver and east of Boulder.
The company began production of natural vanilla in 1989 and currently produces eight additional flavor extracts and has more than 50 others in development. New orders for Hauser's flavor extracts, to be used in ready-to-drink beverages, now exceed $1,000,000 through June 1993, and are expected to increase throughout the year.
Hauser's natural flavor extracts are sold to Tastemaker, the fifth largest worldwide flavor company. Tastemaker supplies high quality flavors for any application in the food and beverage industry. Hauser is in the third year of a three-year contract to supply natural flavor extracts to Tastemaker. According to William E. Paukert, Hauser chief financial officer, "Tastemaker and Hauser are currently negotiating to strengthen and extend the contract."
Hauser's proprietary technologies efficiently produce a wide spectrum of high value, pure natural chemicals for many different industries. Hauser is internationally recognized for its success as the only commercial producer of Taxol, a very promising new anti- cancer drug, approved for refractory ovarian cancer by the Food and Drug Administration in December of 1992. Hauser also produces a number of other natural products for customers including an adjuvant for a feline leukemia vaccine now under study for use with human vaccines, artemisinin which is a potent anti-malaria compound under study by World Health Organization and artemisinin derivatives which are being developed by the company for treatment of several parasitic diseases.
Hauser Chemical Research Inc. is a chemical processor, specializing in the extraction and purification of high value natural products using its proprietary technologies.
